Criminal Record Certificate
Obtaining an Austrian Criminal Record Certificate
You can apply for an Austrian criminal record certificate at the Austrian Consulate in Melbourne.
The criminal record register contains all criminal law convictions and is managed centrally by the Department of Police Records (Strafregisteramt) at the Vienna Federal Police Headquarters (Bundespolizeidirektion Wien). The criminal record certificate is a document detailing either all of a person’s registered convictions or stating that there are no such convictions.
In order to verify the applicant’s identity, he/she must appear in person at least at the Austrian Consulate or Embassy.
In the event that appearance in person is considered unreasonable hardship for the applicant (due to illness, distance from home, frailty etc.) his/her signature on the application form may in exceptional cases be certified by a notary, a court or another official authority and forwarded to the competent authority together with a legalized copy of the applicant’s passport or ID.
Documents required:

Official identification document with photo (e.g passport)
For proving former names (which must be mentioned in the application): e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, adoption certificate
For a criminal record certificate for "children and youth welfare purposes” or "Care and Support" (Strafregisterbescheinigung "Kinder- und Jugendfürsorge" oder "Pflege und Betreuung") in addition: a fully completed and signed confirmation by the employer.
